Hi friends! It's Ivy and today I am in my cozy vibes. There’s just something about fall crafting that makes me want to pull out all my favorite Cardstock Warehouse colors. For this project, I took a simple wooden pumpkin and a variety of leaf die cuts and turned it into a cute fall photo frame. Let’s get started.
- Cardstock Warehouse cardstock paper:
- Various Leaf Dies
- Die Cutting Machine
- Acrylic Paint: FolkArt Matte in Warm Bisque
- Wooden Pumpkin
- Small Bulldog Clip
- Liquid Glue
- Colored Pencils
I started by die cutting all of my cardstock in a variety of leaf shapes. I wasn’t sure exactly which ones I was going to use, so I cut a mix of different sizes and shapes. I like to cut a bunch at once and save whatever I don’t use for another project. You never know when those extra little pieces will come in handy, and they make great embellishments and accents for handmade cards.
I have this little tray with 4 sections and it’s perfect for keeping all my die cuts separated while I’m working. It makes it so much easier to see everything I have to work with, and I’m loving it!
Next, I gave this wooden pumpkin a fresh coat of paint. I wanted it to have a warm, seasonal look without being too bright because I wanted those pretty cardstock leaves to really stand out. I used Warm Bisque from FolkArt Matte, which ended up being the perfect neutral backdrop.
Once the paint was completely dry, it was time to add the details! To give my leaves a little more dimension, I used colored pencils to draw in some veins and lightly shade the edges. I love how such a simple detail can make paper die cuts look a little more realistic and give them some extra depth.
Then came my favorite part; playing around with the arrangement! I mixed and matched the different leaf shapes, sizes, and colors until I found a combination I liked, then arranged them around the pumpkin. Once I was happy with the placement, I used Liquid Mono glue to adhere everything to the pumpkin.
For the finishing touch, I attached a mini bulldog clip to the pumpkin using a glue gun. This gives me an easy way to display a favorite photo and also means I can switch out the photo whenever I want easily. I added a few little leaves to the corner of my photo to tie everything together.
