Welcome crafty friends! Are you looking for the perfect DIY place cards for an upcoming event? Hello there, I’m Angenise @thegracefulpenstudio, and I’d love to show you how I made these die cut place cards and hand calligraphed them using incredible papers from Cardstock Warehouse.
Supplies:
- Cardstock Warehouse cardstock papers:
- Craft Supplies:
- Metallic watercolor paint (you can also use acrylic ink if you prefer)
- Watercolor brush (I used a size 0 brush to load the watercolor paint to the calligraphy nib)
- Calligraphy nib and holder (I used a Nikko G nib + Tom’s Studio pen holder)
- Tassels
- Pencil and kneaded eraser (optional)
- Hole punch
- Electronic Die Cutting Machine (I used a Cricut Maker)
If Pinterest is your go-to place for inspiration, you’ve probably seen a ton of fan-shaped place cards. When I saw them, I knew I had to create them for myself. The nice part is that I’m now sharing them with you and I’ve even created the cut file I used as a freebie for this tutorial.

After uploading the cut file to the design space for my cutting machine, I sized it down to approximately 5.5x3.25 before duplicating it twice. Once I had them arranged in a way that fit nicely within 8.5x11, I grouped the files then attached them. They were then ready to be cut. Next, I loaded the card stock onto a strong grip mat and loaded it into my machine to be cut. Be sure to use a pressure setting that’s appropriate for heavy weight paper where your machine cuts two passes. Cutting was a breeze and they were then ready to be inked.
Since these are dark colored papers, I chose metallic ink. You could also use brush pens (such as Kelly Creates Jewel tone metallic pens or Artistro white paint pens). Adding the tassels really elevated the look of these place cards and I loved the final look of how they came together.
These place cards are great for weddings, bridal and baby showers, formal dinners, corporate events, or even as fun gift tags! You can change up the colors and tassels to match your event.
