How cute is this spooky banner? Hey crafty friends, it’s Melissa, and I am back with another fun paper decor tutorial. I love Halloween decorations and decorating for Halloween, and every year I make a few new things to add to my house. This year I decided to add another banner to a shelf I have on my wall.
If you are looking for something fun and easy to add to your Halloween setup, I would love to teach you how to make this adorable banner. Grab your supplies and let’s get started!
Supplies:
- Cardstock Warehouse cardstock papers:
- Adhesives
- Scissors
- Twine or ribbon
- Cricut Electronic Die Cutting Machine
- Cut Files:
- Cricut Design Space Images
- Font- Groovy Merry from Creative Fabrica (or you can use the font included in the Cricut file.)
Start by prepping your files and cutting your pieces. I used the font listed above, but I also included a font in the Cricut file if you don’t want to download a new one. I created a backing layer for each of the letters using the “offset” feature in Design Space.
Once you have your file the way you want it, cut all your pieces out. You can find a list of the papers I used in the supplies list above. One of my favorite things about Cardstock Warehouse cardstock is how amazing it is for cutting out very intricate pieces. I love removing it from the cutting mat and seeing how perfect the cut is! If there are some little pieces left in the web, just use a poker tool to poke them out. Once they are cut, sort and organize your pieces into piles. This will make assembling much easier.
Now that your pieces are cut, let's glue the pennants together. Using Bearly Art Liquid Glue, layer the spider web pennant pieces on top of their matching backgrounds. The precision tip makes it so easy to glue the fine lines of the webs. Then, use the same glue to adhere your letters to their backing.
Use foam tape or foam pop dots to attach your layered letters to the banner pennants. Make sure you have your pennants alternated correctly. The foam tape helps give your banner dimension and makes it look more professional.
To add a little extra something to the banner, I decided to add some spiders to it. On the pointed pennants, I glued a hanging spider on the back. For the other style of pennant, I put little spiders on the letters. I used foam dots on the back of the spiders to pop them off the letters. You could also add little stars, ghosts, black cats, pumpkins, or whatever other icons you like.
Once all of your pennants are assembled, use a hole punch to put holes in the top corners of the pennants. Use twine, string, or ribbon to string up your banner. If you would like to make your banner even more fun, cut some other shapes and attach them in between the letters. You can add as many pennants as you want to make your banner the length and style you want.
Now your banner is ready to hang! For a bit of extra fun, I also make a set of simple 3d halloween letters, and I have included those in the Cricut file for you. You can find a tutorial on assembling 3D paper letters here!
The icons included for the letters could also be used for the pennants if you want to add more decorations of items between the letters.
