Hi friends! It's Ivy, and my favorite time of the year is upon us…HALLOWEEN!! This year, I've been making a conscious effort to "shop my stash" and give some of my older dies and embossing folders a little extra love. What better way to do that than with some fun new cardstock colors? The die I'm using for today's project is from circa 2019, but it's still one of my all time favorites. Sometimes the best supplies are the ones you've had all along!
To give this classic design a fresh twist, I decided to give these adorable ghosts a little glow-up with a few fun details and a BRIGHT color scheme. I love finding new ways to breathe fresh life into older products, and I can't wait to show you how this project came together. So let's dive in!

I'm going to show you how I made my card using some dies and punches that I had on hand, but I hope this bold and bright Halloween color scheme inspires you to break out your old Halloween dies and make something fun with some new paper colors! You could use this technique with another ghost die, bats, pumpkins, or any other shapes you have on hand. You could also cut ghosts and flowers using an electronic die cutting machine.
I began by trimming a piece of Purple cardstock to 4" x 5¼". Next, I ran it through my die cutting machine using the ghost embossing folder to create a fun, textured background for my card. You can use whatever embossing folder you have that fits your motif.
Next, I used a black ink pad to blend an ombré effect around the edges of the embossed panel, gradually darkening toward the outside while leaving the center circle purple. This created a natural spotlight effect that frames the center.
Then, I used the die cut to cut out all the pieces needed to assemble the ghost. To give it a little extra dimension and make it sturdier, I cut two ghost layers and adhered them together.
Here's one of my favorite crafty life hacks! One of my go-to products from Cardstock Warehouse is their White Diamond Print Inkjet Glitter Paper. Instead of searching for the perfect glitter color, I simply colored the glitter paper with Zebra Mildliner pens, choosing a shade that's slightly lighter than my cardstock. Then, I used flower punches to cut flowers. I use this technique all the time, and it's an easy way to customize your glitter accents and get the exact color you need for your project!
Once all my little flowers were punched, I glued them to my ghosts and used my small scissors to fussy-cut around the edges of the ghosts, cutting off the excess flower bits. And now you have the cutest little ghoulfriends!
If you don't have any punches you like, you can die cut flowers or other shapes using metal dies or an electronic cutting machine. Use your imagination and shop your stash!
The original die includes striped die cut layers for the ghosts' socks, but I decided to skip those and draw my own patterns instead. I thought it would be more fun to give each ghost a different sock patterns, so I drew them on with a .38 fine micron pen. I did polka dots, horizontal stripes, and vertical stripes. I used my white chalk pen to add tiny dots to the eyes on each ghost.

To add dimension, I created a top-folding A2 card base of Sirio Ultra Black. On top of the folding base, I added a layer of Black Glitter paper, a layer of White Glitter paper, and then layered on my purple embossed ghost background.
I then adhered the ghosts with foam tape, using an extra layer behind the middle ghost to make it stand out as the focal point of the card. I added a panel of Fuchsia, a stamped sentiment, and a little die cut pumpkin to the inside to make it extra cute.
To finish everything off, I added a few star shaped gems for a touch of shine and dotted on some Wink of Stella to give the background a subtle sparkle. It's the perfect finishing touch for a fun and whimsical Halloween card!
