Autumn Handmade Greeting Card With Hedgehog Hi

Just Saying Hi Hedgehog Card

Hi friends! It’s Ivy from @ivypinkmade! If you didn’t already know, I am OBSESSED with hedgehogs! I’ve had a pet hedgehog since 2008, and that’s when my love for all things hedgehog really began. Needless to say, my collection has grown quite a bit over the years! 😂

When I think of fall, I can’t help but think of cozy autumn colors, crunchy leaves, and of course… hedgehogs! So today’s card combines two of my favorite things into one adorable fall inspired card.

For this card, I used the Cardstock Warehouse Autumn multipack and the colors were absolutely perfect for bringing my little hedgehog scene to life!

Let’s get started.

To create my card base, I cut an A2 (4.25" x 5.5") flat card out of Cacao cardstock. For the yellow layer, I started with an A2 Sunflower card cut vertically. to create a top-folding card. I then trimmed ¼" from two sides so that the Sunflower layer would be slightly smaller and leave a Cacao border around the edges. I love this unique card shape!

Next, I die cut all the piece I needed to build the card. Here are the colors I used for each pieces.

  • Hedgehog: Cacao and Stone
  • Leaves: Vermiglione, Gialloro, Mandarin, Cherry, Sunflower and Rust
  • Hi with leaves border: Moss
  • Hi letters & Scallop trim: Birch Wood Veneer (This paper is REAL wood! It's thin sheets of wood with a cardstock backing that functions just like cardstock!)

Once I had all the pieces cut, it was time to build the card.

The first step is adding the little “quills” to the hedgehog! I love using these Grabie acrylic markers because the colors show up so well on dark cardstock, like Cacao. I simply added little line strokes all around the body to create the look of his spikes, then added a few details to his face, including rosy cheeks. Once I finished the details, I used foam tape on the back of the hedgehog’s body to give him a little dimension. I finished him off by tucking a tiny leaf into his hands, because what’s a fall hedgehog without a little leaf? 😊

Next, I used foam tape on the “Hi” die-cut piece to pop it up from the card and add some dimension. I used Mono Adhesive to attach the Cherry Wood Veneer “HI” on top of the Moss layer. I strategically adhered some leaves directly to the base card and others on top of the raised die cut piece to create different layers and a little extra depth.

To finish off the card, I added a little scallop trim along the bottom to tie in the wood paper of the “Hi.” Then, I popped up my little hedgie and piled on the colorful leaves to create that cozy, layered fall feeling.
