Hi everyone! Natasha of @PoliteCreations, back with another fun card making tutorial. I am sharing a cute "Pasteloween" inspired card using the Colorplan pastel papers and a few accent colors. This card is on the cutesy side of Halloween instead of the scary side. I encourage you to grab a die set you like and use this paper color scheme to make an adorable Halloween card. Let's get started!
Supplies:
- Cardstock Warehouse cardstock papers:
- Spellbinders Boo Mobile Dies
- Spooky Web Embossing Folder
- Oil pastels
- Die Cutting Machine
- Adhesives:
- Optional: White Gel Pen & Gems
As always, I started by die cutting all of my pieces. Here are the paper colors I used for each of the elements:
- Car body in Rosa
- Pumpkin in Candy Pink
- Pumpkin Stem in Park Green
- Car Background/Shadow in Flame Metallic
- Ghost, Skulls, & Hey Boo in Crystal Metallic
- Steering Wheel, Mirrors, Tires, & Ghost Backing in Ultra Black
- Skull Backings in Sorbet Yellow
Now you can assemble the car. Place the pink pumpkin layers together with liquid glue. Then, attach your steering wheel and ghost to the back of the open "windshield" piece. Then, add the flame background, sealing the ghost and steering wheel inside.
Glue the side mirrors and wheels in place on the back of the car, and then add the stem and layered skulls to the front.
If you've read any of my recent blogs, then you know that I have rediscovered my love of pastels and have been using them for blending on my cards and die cuts. I used some pink, orange, white, and green pastels to add little lines of color, and then blended them with a small blending brush to add highlights and shadows.
You can also add highlights with a white pen. A small amount of color blending can go a long way to add visual interest to your die cuts!
For my background, I cut an A2 panel of Lavender and embossed a pattern on it using an embossing folder. I emboss the backgrounds of almost every card I make because I love the dimension and pattern it adds to my cards. I try and choose embossing folders that are patterns I know I will use again and again.
I popped my finished pumpkin car into the center of the Lavender panel with foam tape, and then used liquid glue to adhere my "hey boo" sentiment pieces. The precision tip on the Bearly Art® glue is perfect for tiny pieces like these. Finally, I added a little bit of sparkle with three pink glitter gems.
Isn't it BOOtiful? I loved worked with the paper colors and am already daydreaming about a pastel Christmas card! Pastels are definitely not just for Easter. 😉
