Apple Of My Eye First Birthday Party

Apple Of My Eye First Birthday Party

You're the apple of my eye! How cute is this theme for a first fall birthday? I get the most fun requests in my Etsy shop, and I couldn’t wait to make this theme! These decorative picks & baskets can be used for cupcakes, food, party favors, or decoration to add a special touch to your party! I would love to teach you how to make them, so let’s grab some supplies and get started!

Supplies:

papers and supplies for die cut paper apple-themed birthday decorations

Start by cutting your pieces using the Creative Fabrica and Ccricut files above. I added an offset to the apple pieces to give them a backing, and also added a little “glare” to the apple with a tear drop file. For the letters, I grouped them together and added two offset layers. You can format your pieces to fit our event.

Once my pieces were cut, I organized them into piles to make them easier to assemble. You can find all the beautiful cardstock colors I used in the supplies list.

Let’s start with the basket! Fold along the score lines of each piece. Then, take the bottom triangle tab pieces and glue them to the bottom piece of the bucket. To help the tabs adhere to the bottom, turn the bucket back over and take your finger and rub the bottom. This will help it stay tight. Slowly work your way around, gluing each tab to the bottom.

Now take the other half of the bucket and glue the tab on the side to the inside of the already glued half. Using the same technique as before, glue the triangle tabs to the bottom. Once all the tabs are glued to the bottom, secure the final tab on the side of the bucket to close up the bucket “walls.”

The last three pieces of the bucket are the two handle reinforcements and the bottom circle. Glue the handle pieces to the inside of the bucket, lining them up with the handles that are already there. These will cover your seams and add a bit of sturdiness to the bucket.

Once that is complete, cover the bottom of your bucket with glue, including each of the tabs, and glue the circle to it. This will cover up all the tabs and make your bucket nice and flat on the bottom.

Now it's time to add the finishing touches to the bucket! There are 2 long gold bands, 2 short gold bands, 2 red bands, and 2 red handle pieces. Take the 2 long gold bands and glue them near the top of the bucket. Then, take the two shorter gold bands and glue them at the bottom of the bucket. Glue the red pieces in the middle of the bucket and the red handle pieces to the outside of the handles. Your cute little basket is complete!

Now we can move on to the decorative picks. Plug in your hot glue gun so it can warm up before you start gluing your paper pieces. These are super easy to put together!

assembling decorative food picks from die cut paper

There are three different topper images: the apple, the apple core, and the “one” letters. (You can make your letters say whatever you want, like a name, age, or theme word.) Follow the layering from the Cricut file to assemble these one at a time.

The final step is to take your hot glue gun and glue the sticks on the back of the food picks. If you're feeling fancy, you can cut a second backing layer and layer it on top of the stick to hide the stick, but these won't be seen from the back, so I did not do that for mine.

Now you are ready to decorate for your party! You can use your picks as cupcake toppers or stick them in other food items. The basket is great for holding a cupcake, or you can fill it with candy like I did in this photo.

I also made a cute party hat and high chair banner, which I included in the Cricut files. They layer together the same way as the other apple pieces, so just follow those same steps.
