Hi everyone! Natasha of @PoliteCreations, back with another fun card making tutorial. I love autumn, and I especially love making thank you cards around Thanksgiving to send a message of gratitude to the special people in my life. A sweet little birdie is helping me showcase today’s card. Let's get started!
Supplies:
- Cardstock Warehouse cardstock paper:
- Die Cutting Machine for metal dies
- Spellbinders: Owl Be There and Stuffed With Gratitude
- Brass & Bliss Leaf Medley Cover Die
- Oil pastels
- Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide & Blending Brush
- Versafine Black Ink
- Foam & Wet Adhesive
- Optional: White Gel Pen & Gems
As always, we will start our project with die cutting the pieces. I'm using an owl die from Spellbinders, and the Leaf Medley Here is a list of the colors I used for each piece.
- Owl Body in Kraft and Pitch
- Eyes in Crystal Stardream
- Pupils in Sirio Ultra Black
- Legs and Beak in Factory Yellow
- Leaf Background in Flame Metallic
- Sentiment Flag and A2 Panel in Arancio
Next, we will ink up our background. I love this leaf cover plate die, and it's even more amazing when you cut it out of Stardream metallic paper and add some ink to it to give it some dimension. I used my blending brushes and Seedless Preserves to add color to the leaf centers, and I think it really makes them pop! Then, I adhered the leaf background to an A2 (4.25" x 5.5") panel of Arancio. The ombre effect is really nice.
Once your card panel is ready, assemble the adorable little owl. I layered the head and body separately with liquid glue, and then glued the head onto the top of the body segment. I felt like it needed a little something, so I added a bit of shading and details to the face, ears, and tummy using a brown oil pastel. I've really enjoyed using oil pastels lately, and I love the way they blend! Oil pastels also allow you to add blending in very specific areas so you don't have to worry about getting color where you don't want it. This is really handy when you decide to add shading after you've already assembled your piece.

Now all we need is a sentiment! I stamped a sentiment onto a little flag of the orange paper with black ink. To assemble my card, I added the sentiment flag to my panel just below the middle, then layered my owl on top of it where his little feet would sit on top of the flag. I attached both of these with some thin foam adhesive to give them just a bit of height.
For one final touch, I added a few flat-backed jewels for a bit of sparkle. And there you have it, an adorable little owl card that is ready to fly away with a special note!
