I started this project with a single photo in mind; one of my son from October 2020 where he is eating an apple. I love the Color Pop app for this effect of a black and white photo with one item kept in color. I knew it would look perfect for this photo. My next idea was to create a cut file to coordinate with the photo… but I couldn’t decide which style of cut file I preferred. This first layout uses a layered cut file in a fun, whimsical style.
I uploaded the cut file into Cricut Design Space, and cut each layer from each color. (After you upload the .png, use the copy/paste and "contour" feature to isolate each piece and change it to the color you want.) Colors used: Pure white (apple base), Candy Pink, Chartreuse, Nightshift Blue, Vermillion, and Racing Green.
From there, the layout came together quickly. I added some foam adhesive to the back of my apple to make it pop.
Then I printed my top ten list of fall favorites on a piece of paper. I added the title “Fall Favs” in red alpha stickers and added some machine stitching over the top. And it's done! You can grab this cut file in the supplies list above.
Here is what the first layout looks like all put together!
But this was not the first cut file I made, so I wanted to see how my original idea would look with this photo. I cut the Apple Outline cut file out on white cardstock first.
Then I chose the colors that would back my cut file. Colors used: Vermillion, Sour Apple, Racing Green, Chartreuse, Candy Pink, Sorbet Yellow.
I traced the open spaces in the cut file on the colored papers, and then cut them out, leaving a little excess around the edges to have room to glue them to the back of the cut file. Once my cut file was backed with my papers, I used foam adhesive to give it some dimension.
And here’s the finished result! You can see why I couldn’t decide!! You can grab this cut file in the supplies list above! Leave us a comment below and let us know which cut file is your favorite!
