New Year Shaker Cake Topper

New Year Shaker Cake Topper

Since it’s time for us to ring in the new year, why not do it with style and sparkle!? I am excited to stick this fun shaker topper in a big cake and bring it to the festivities! The glitter and Stardream papers add the perfect amount of shimmer and sparkle. Want to make your own? Let’s get started!

Materials:

Once you’ve opened the file, you’ll notice there is a red arch marked “print and cut.” You can add your favorite digital paper and slice it to fit the arch, or you can use another glitter paper if you choose. Then cut all of your pieces using the papers listed above. If you want to resize the cake topper, make sure you have the entire project selected before you resize it.

To start assembly, l decided to piece together all of the individual elements, starting with the squiggly shape with the numbers. I decided I wanted some dimension, so after gluing the white layer on top of the silver, I used black foam squares to attach it to the black base. I also added dimension to the “2025” that will sit nicely inside with the white and gold contrast.

Next, I moved on to the firecracker and other items until all that was left was the arch. All of these pieces are easy to assemble by just layering them and gluing them. I continued the process, gluing some layers flat and some with foam tape in between. You’ll notice that the outline for the gold layer on the party hat is scored directly onto the black background, making it easier to line up and glue with even spacing.

For the beautiful clock, I wanted to have some glitter inside. This is optional, but I believe that even if you choose not to add glitter, giving it some dimension so it looks like a real clock instead of it laying flat looks really nice. To do this, I used skinny foam strips and laid them into the face of the clock.

I also used this time to glue the fireworks on the acetate and attach them. After the clock is completed, you should have all the smaller cake topper pieces done.

As we move onto the arch, you can decide again if you’d like it to have dimension. I love dimension and glitter, so I use it as much as I can! :-)

I glued the white arch directly onto the gold one, and then using foamies, I created dimension between the gold and black arches. I then attached the acetate on the back. Now it’s time to glue the printed acetate into the back layer and place a foam strip (if you’re making a shaker) around the edges.

Once our arch is complete, it will be glued on the welded base layer. There are two strips of the squiggly shape that have been sliced - these are fillers so if you’re creating dimension, you’ll need this to make your cake topper at an even layer. If you’re not using foamies and your cake topper will be flat, you can disregard.

Next, we’ll take the squiggly “2025” and using foamies (I used black since the back layer is black) you’ll attach them directly on and in place.

Continue until all of the pieces you created earlier are glued and in place. Then, hot glue a long acrylic cake topper stick or shishkabob stick to the back of the entire topper. If your cake will be seen from the back, you can cut a second back piece and glue it over the stick.

That’s it! Now you have a beautiful, sparkly New Year’s Cake Topper to make 2025 your best year yet!
