Need something special to gift to someone you love for Valentine’s Day, Mother's Day, an anniversary, or a birthday? This gift box is the perfect thing! It’s like three gifts in one because it’s a handmade box, a mini scrapbook, and hold special treats! Cue up your favorite love songs playlist and let’s get to work on the assembly of this beautiful box.
Materials:
-
Cardstock Warehouse cardstock paper:
- Stardream 105lb: Onyx & Crystal
- MirriSparkle 104lb: Black Diamond, Pink Sapphire, Red Wagon
- Acetate
- Cut File: Photobooth Gift box
- Cutting Machine
-
Adhesives:
- Bearly Art Glue®
- Foam Tape or Foamies (Optional)
Upload and open the file in your cutting machine of choice and choose how you’d like to color and design your box. I chose to keep it simple with black and white so that the elements all stood out. I decided to start assembling the black portion of the file first, folding along the dashed cut lines before adding glue to the tabs. You’ll notice the box has 2 cutouts so that you can slide the “divider” section in. One side is perfect for your significant other’s favorite treats, while the left side is made for storing photos of the two of you together.
Once you have placed the divider tabs through the box, glue the tabs to the outside of the box, and then using the smaller two covers, glue those over the tabs so the box looks nice and clean. You’ll also notice 4 covers for the sides of the box, one to place inside to cover the tabs that were glued in the earlier section, and one more on the outside (for both the left and right side of the box) to provide better support.
Next, we’ll move on to the assembly of the white box. This is where the black box will slide into once it’s completed. Similarly to the black box, we’ll fold along the dashed score lines and glue the tabs inside. Once that’s completed, you’ll glue a layer of acetate inside, and follow up with an additional layer (in my case, a black insert) which provides more support for your box. Make sure to glue them where the rectangle cutouts line up.
Now we’ll be working on the back side of the box that will create a “closure”. I started by first folding the score tabs, but only gluing the tab that will adhere to the side of the box. Make sure to glue the tab so it is inside the box. Once that was glued, I repeated for the tabs on the top and bottom of the box, again making sure they were glued inside. Once this was complete, I placed the black box inside.
Next, we’ll move on to the final pieces of the box. I changed mine slightly than what the original designer had as the box is customizable and it’s fun to personalize. I started by folding the curtain rod piece before folding the curtain itself and sliding the “rod” through the open curtain spaces. Once all of the inserts were in place, I glued the top section in between the two cutouts directly on the white box and gently placed the curtain rod onto it. Then I continued to glue my pieces together. I glued the camera together and the price tag for the photos.
Finally, we’ll be working on the header. I scored where the letters and strips would be placed to make sure they were evenly spaced and would stay in place, and then began gluing everything down. I think keeping the box black and white, and then using glitter accents for the elements really made this box turn out great, if I must say so myself. ;-) I added foamies in between the box and header so that it popped out a little more. If you’ve followed along with me over the last few years, you’d know that I love adding dimension!
Next up is what I’m sure will be your favorite part! Reminisce your love story by using photos of the two of you together and glue them onto the photo strip. You can use as little as 5 photos, if you’d only like to cut out one strip, or you can use 10 photos cutting both and gluing them together end-to-end. Cut an additional strip with the glue tab if you’d like to showcase even more photos! Once your photos are glued, add in your partner’s favorite candies (or fill with a rose, something they love, etc) and then slide the box closed and enter the photos through the tab.
*Because the paper I used for the photo strip is 105lb and super sturdy, I entered the photos in the black box portion and slid one out through the insert as I was closing it. I highly suggest this method unless you’re using a paper line like Lessebo where you can use 83lb paper. If you’re using lighter weight paper, you can close up the box and fold the photo strip up and stick the whole thing into the slot in the front.
